Symposium Abstract
A scientific exhibition for the general public on testing and measurement is currently being developed by NITE and the Bloomfield Science Museum, Jerusalem, with the partners, ETS and the Franklin Institute. It is designed as a traveling exhibition, to be presented in several museums simultaneously or serially. The goals of the exhibition are to expose the public to the scientific field of testing and measurement, to encourage discussion and increase public awareness. The exhibition is aimed at encouraging interest in the field, increasing its appeal, lending it public prestige, and drawing high-caliber individuals to become testing professionals. The exhibition targets children, as well as youth and adults. This will be the first exhibition of its kind in the world. Among the topics presented by the exhibition will be: reliability, validity, intelligence measurement, psycho-physiological measurement, selection and vocational assessment, international comparisons, gender impact, cultural aspects of testing, fairness and bias, the future of testing, as well as the history of testing and its role in society. The session will begin with a short presentation about the exhibition, followed by brief observations from each of several distinguished participants who will comment on the exhibition's objectives, messages and impact. There will then be a general discussion, with ample time allowed for members of the audience to contribute and express their opinions, after having examined four pilot exhibits.
